Fog Light Indicator Flashing No Brake Light

Recommended Posts

When I switch the ignition on the fog light indicator warning light comes on the instrument panel and the instrument panel illumination (including the radio) flashes dimly once a second. I also have problems with the top rear brake light when this happens, the rear washer motor and the tailgate lock.

Help ... has anyone had a problem like this before, I would suspect the rear loom, but a more educated guess would be appreciated.

I wiggled the part of the loom I have access to and all was fixed, five minutes later the problem was back and no amount of wiggling now sorts it

Thanks

John

Sounds like the cables are shorting out between each other and causing a few problems in the rear hatch ;) pull one end of the rubber bellows out of its mounting and check the condition of the cables? it's a common fault so there are a few posts on the topic

Can't believe the speed of the response (could be the v6), yes have checked and its all ripped to shreds.

Whats the best way to fix and prevent the thing happening again

a) New loom

;) Remove the damaged loom and repair

c) repair in situ ?

Lost my tis so I've no idea how the things connected up

Many Thanks

If you remove the loom and repair it by cutting out the damage and soldering in suitable wire that has a high-modulus insulation, and heat-shrink sleeve the joints, then you know your not going to have to do it again.

New looms probably the best option but it's not cheap or an easy fix! get some elostoplasts in ;) if you can get to the loom cut http://www.freedomtrailriders.org/forums/style_emoticons/default/hack.gifout the bad section and replace the bad cables with a good grade cable! then seal the joints (heat shrink/self amagamating tape etc ) try and feed the joints back into the hatch and into the main body so the new cable takes the stress of the movement and not the joints!

I have got to do the same at some point.

What is the best cable to use?

I tried to trace the cable back along inside the car to see if the cable can unplug somewhere and then just replace the whole cable from the car to the rear hatch but I don't think it will be that easy.

The plugs for the rear hatch loom are in the space above the rear lights, it's not much of a problem unplugging them BUT! another member who replaced the whole loom said it was a bitch of a job feeding the new loom through the rear hatch
